“I was
fortunate to visit Sri Lanka over the Christmas period,
touring the island to see for myself the devastation of
the tsunami and the dedicated work of rebuilding homes
and lives which is now going on. I saw for myself the
faith and courage of people living in the villages along
the coast, and met many, many children.
I am
really proud of the children of England and Wales, of
their efforts and the efforts of their teachers and
parents, after the tsunami struck. It was as if the
children in England and Wales were reaching across the
oceans to the children of Sri Lanka, both through the
money raised through
Mission
Together,
and through the thoughts and prayers of the people here
for the people there.
The people
of Sri Lanka asked me to thank you on their behalf. And
I thank you too, for all you did to show that we are
indeed one human family, united in a common humanity
under a loving God. God bless you all.”
