This challenge can be used with the Here I am topic BUILDING BRIDGES.

Enrico comes from a very poor family and he is a former gang leader in the toughest part of Esmeraldas.

When he was in prison as a teenager, he was allowed to attend a day-time college for young offenders built by the local bishop and supported by Mission Together.

Today, Enrico is a married man with a disabled child. He looks after his little family with remarkable faithfulness, working hard as a mechanic to earn his living and self-respect.

CHALLENGE: Enrico knows that everyone responds to love: he hopes that children in Mission Together will continue to support the poor children in his town by their prayer and sharing. So far the catechetical centre

and two schools have proved to be the best way of building bridges for the alienated children in this impoverished area.

CAN YOU HELP?

Can you pray for Enrico and his family and share with the children of Esmeraldas?

Mission Together builds bridges, offering equal opportunities to all children.

There are many gangs which draw children into the web of violence in the poorest parts of Esmeraldas.

Enrico was a gang leader but now he actively works for peace

PRAYER
REQUEST

Lucia and her brother Victor live with their grandmother.

Their parents can only find work in the nearest town – a day’s journey away.

The children see their parents only twice a month because they cannot afford to visit their children more often.

Victor goes to a school built by Mission Together. His favourite subjects are Spanish, PE and RE.

Victor wants to become a priest when he grows up. But before that happens, he needs to learn a trade and get a job so that he can help his little sister to go to school and his grandmother to buy medicine.

CHALLENGE: Victor asks the children in Mission Together to pray for him.

Can you pray for Victor, so that his dream may come true? Can you pray also for his sister, Lucia?

Mission Together encourages children to pray for one another, and thus become one family of Jesus united in solidarity, mutual support, care and love.

Fundraising for this project is optional.

This is Lucia and her brother Victor. They live with their grandmother in a small village in the valley of the Napo river.

That river becomes the Amazon when it flows into Brazil
