WELCOME TO SAINT JOSEPH'S INSTITUTE

Because there isn’t enough food or money to provide for everyone, some parents in Tamil Nadu are forced to abandon their children. The system of paying dowries* for their daughters is often a real struggle for poor families.

Small babies like this little girl are found at the Police Station in Ama’s town

What would you do if you found an abandoned baby?

What do you think the Tamil Nadu families could do instead of abandoning their babies?

How do you think you and your friends could help?

This is Father Antony Jegathesan. He cares for 1,300 abandoned children and orphans in Saint Joseph’s Charity Institute.

This wonderful place has been supported by Mission Together for more than 100 years!

CAN YOU HELP TO KEEP IT GOING?

In Tamil Nadu people are welcomed with a beautiful flower garland *

Can you remember how you were first welcomed at your school?

Making baskets is difficult but why not try to make a MISSION MAT for your Mission Together display? Try this:

You need a ruler; scissors; glue or clear tape; black, red, yellow, blue, white and green card.

1 Measure and cut out a piece of black card 20cm wide and 24cm long. Cut fourteen lines in the paper, leaving a 1cm border all the way around the mat.
2 Cut two red, two yellow, two blue, two white and two green strips of card (each 2cm wide and 24cm long).

3 Weave a red strip, yellow strip, blue strip, white strip and then a green strip, going over and under theblack mat frame.

Start weaving each strip alternately: one from the top and the next one from the bottom. Keep the black border. Secure the ends of the strips with glue or clear tape.
4 Place your mat on the table and decorate it with Mission Together materials.
