The true story of Nadeen from Sri Lanka

Focus on Sri Lanka

Nadeen lives in Sri Lanka. War comes. Her dad goes away. Her mum decides to find work in another country. Her mum has to leave Sri Lanka.

Nadeen’s mum takes her to Jeevanie Children’s home. Sister Jacintha and the other girls welcome her. Nadeen does not want to be there. She is sad.

Nadeen hides in her bed. The other girls belong to Mission Together. They have circle time. They pray that Nadeen will have peace in her heart. The girls leave for school. Nadeen would not go with them. When the girls return they have a dancing lesson. Nadeen hears the music.

Slowly, slowly, Nadeen peeps out from the dormitory. Slowly, slowly, she follows the sound of the music. Slowly, slowly, she joins in the dance. Nadeen loves dance and music. She learns to play the big horn. Now she leads the band when the girls have special Mission Together celebrations.

In Sri Lanka
 'pahana' is the
word for a
prayer lamp

Many children still suffer because of the war that lasted 20 years.
