GATHERING

FOCUS: A celebration of the gift of food and a call to share with other children who are poor, particularly AIDS orphans in Zambia.

DISPLAY: Children’s work with empty and full plates, map of Africa, bible, Mission Together candle.

MUSIC: Feed the World

PROCESSION: One child carries a loaf of bread on a plate. One child carries a cross with a red AIDS ribbon and four children each carry an empty plate.

LEADER: Today we thank God for the gift of food and we pray for children who are hungry, particularly AIDS orphans in places like Zambia.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

The miracle of the loaves.

Open the bible at John 6:5 -15

This may be dramatised.

JESUS: Where can we buy some bread for the people to eat?

PHILIP: We have only enough money to buy everyone a small piece of bread.

ANDREW: There is a small boy here with five barley loaves and two fish.

Small boy comes forward and gives Jesus his picnic basket.

JESUS: Ask the people to sit down.

Jesus gives thanks, blesses the bread and fish and gives it to the people.

NARRATOR: Everybody has enough to eat.

There is enough left over to fill twelve baskets.

LEADER: This is the Gospel of the Lord.

EVERYONE: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

RESPONSE

CHILD 1: We thank God for the gift of full plates of food which

helps us grow and keeps us healthy.

everybody to his table to be fed.

PRAYER

LEADER: We remember children in places like Zambia where many children who are AIDS orphans are starving and hungry. We pray that we may work together to change empty plates into full plates.

especially the poor and hungry, we pray …
