|
There was once a family who lived close to the
woods. They had no food to eat, so the eldest son went one night to get
advice from the wise old woman of the woods. |

|
|
|
"Eat me" |
"Don't eat me" |
By the light of the moon he at last found where she lived
and asked for her help. She said, "Go further into the wood until you
find two drums. One will say, 'Eat me.' The other will say, 'Don't eat
me.' Take the drum which says, 'Don't eat me.' and beat it." |
|
|
The boy did as she said. Suddenly lots of food
started to come out of the drum. He took the food back to his family and
they had enough to eat. Then the father decided he would like lots and
lots of food to sell to make himself rich. So he, too, visited the old
woman. |

"Don't eat me."

|

|
She told him where to find the two drums and to beat the
drum which said, 'Don't eat me.' The father found the drums. He decided
the old woman wanted to trick him because he wanted to make himself rich
so he beat the drum which said 'Eat me'. |
|
|
When he beat the drum out came a monster which
gobbled him up.
The moral of the story: |

A
man's own greed will destroy him. |
