A Novena for Peace

(Prayers for 9 consecutive days, from the Latin word for nine)


Extract from Mission Together Prayer:
Lord, bless all the children of the world and help us
show the world how to live in peace.

Thursday
9th May

Ascension Day

 

 

Day 1

Peace I give you, my peace I leave with you. Jn 14:27


Find a quiet place in the house
or garden. Be still. Pray for peace.

Prayer: Lord, fill me with your peace. Help me share it with everyone.

 

Day2

Love one another as I have loved you. Jn 13;14

Choose someone who is always left out, to join in your game.

Prayer: Lord, where there is hate let me bring love.

 

Day3

Peter asked, “How many times should I forgive my friend?” Jesus said, “Seventy seven times.” Mt 19:22

 

Say sorry, even when it hurts.

Prayer: Lord where there is hurt let me bring healing.

 

Day 4

Jesus said, “Why are you frightened. Have you no faith?” Mk 4:41

Make a card for someone who is sick in hospital.

Prayer: Lord, where there is fear let me bring faith.

 

Day 5

I am with you always. Mt 28:20

Encourage a friend.

Prayer: Lord, where there is doubt,
let me bring hope.

 

Day6

He has sent me to bring good news to the poor. Luke 4:18

Pray for children of the world who are poor. Use your Mission Together box to share with them.

Prayer: Lord, where there is darkness, let me bring light.

 

Day 7

Rejoice in the Lord always.
Philippians 3:1

Cheer up someone. Tell a joke.

Prayer: Lord, where there is sadness, let me bring joy.

 

Day 8

Happy are you if you work for peace; God will call you his children. Mt 5:9

Make a helping hand. Put a peace
word in each finger.

Prayer: Lord, help us to stretch out a hand in peace to children everywhere.

 

Day 9

Peace be with you. As the Father sent me so I am sending you. Jn 20:23

Design a peace poster for Pentecost. Place on display in your classroom or school hall.

Prayer: Come Holy Spirit. Bless the children of the world and fill us with your peace.

 

This novena may be used at any time and could be used to support the Here I Am topic CHANGE

in the summer term or may be used after the Ascension in preparation for Pentecost.
