We remember many things. Some make
us happy, some make us sad.
Who can remember the Tsunami/Big
Wave that happened 2 years ago? We
have some pictures here on display.
Invite children to have a look and
remember.

Children in Mission Together
in England & Wales share the same
motto with children worldwide:
‘children helping children’. Do
you know what they do to live it?
(i.e. prayer and sharing)
|
| |
Mission Together children
understand that we need to remember
people/ children in need and so they
helped the children affected by the
Tsunami. (Children in England and
Wales collected more than £400,000
for the Tsunami sufferers!)
Ask children to remember how they
helped. Let them explain why they
prayed for and shared
with the Tsunami sufferers (focus on
the feelings and their own
help).

Let us now look at the story of
Rajat who survived the Tsunami
by holding on to his catamaran.

aid)

Rajat and The Big
Wave
‘I
remember going
fishing on my own
for the first time.
It was exciting and
I caught many fish.
But suddenly I felt
in danger and I
tried to get back to
shore. The sea
became very rough
and started to drag
me out into the
ocean. I could not
paddle fast enough.
Then it became very
frightening. A huge
wave came and I fell
off my boat but I
managed to hang on
to it as the wave
dragged me a long
way. It was
terrifying and I
nearly drowned. But
my catamaran was
strong and I clung
on. Finally, it hit
the shore and
shattered but it
helped me to
survive. I am
thankful to God for
it.
Since then I have
made new friends
with the children in
Mission Together
in Wales and
England. They have
been helping us to
rebuild our lives
ever since the
Tsunami by their
generous sharing and
prayer. They have
really ensured our
survival. I’m glad
we have such good
friends.

Why do you think the catamarans are
so important for Rajat and
his village?

Remembering people in need is
important. Let us now listen to a
story of how Jesus remembered his
friends when they were in need.

What happened to Jesus’ friends? How
do you think they felt when the
storm started? How did they feel
when they recognised Jesus? How did
they feel when he got into the boat
and calmed the storm?
Can you remember when you were
scared or had a problem? Who helped
you? What did they do? Are they your
friends now?
How can we help people who are in
need? Can we live up to the
Mission Together motto by
praying for other children and
sharing with them? Like Jesus can we
become special friends with those
children who need help? What can we
do to make sure that Rajat
and his friends can be happy again?

Activity)

Let us now say a prayer thanking God
for all of our memories and our
friends. After that we shall say the
Mission Prayer together (indicate on
the poster). This is a prayer we can
say every day and so join with
children throughout the whole world
as they remember each other.
